Meet Valerie, Our Holstien Cow

Once a day, every single day for the past 5 months, we have been milking our beautiful Holstein cow named Valerie.

Earlier this year, she had the cutest little calf but she wasn’t a very good mom and didn’t keep him clean so he got fly strike and was not doing well. He quit nursing and could not longer stand up on his own.

By the grace of God, we were able to hydrate him using an electrolyte solution my dad put together using water, beef broth, molasses and other ingredients and after a few days of giving him milk from Valerie, he was up and nursing on his own. So we named him Lazarus, after the man who was raised from the dead by Jesus, and called him Lazy for short.

When he was about 4 months old, we sold him to a local cattle farmer for $400.

And to this day, we have been getting about a gallon of milk from our beautiful cow Valerie every evening.

Below is a YouTube video of Val running to us when we arrive in our farm truck. It’s the funniest thing, she runs right to the feed! #TGBATG
