It initially appeared in a censored and serialised version, published by the British illustrated newspaper The Graphic in 1891[1] and in book form in 1892. It is now considered a major nineteenth-century English novel and possibly Hardy’s fictional masterpiece.

Description

Original hardcover. There is bumping to the spine ends and board edges and corners, with discoloration and marks to the spine and boards. The page edges are grubby and heavily tanned with foxing creeping into the pages. There are smudges on a few pages. There is significant damage to the hinges and binding with a few pages partially detached. This book is over 80 years old. It will have a general appearance commensurate with its age including age effects to page edges, binding and boards.
